Mr. Daly: I wanted to ask if you know of any further research beyond the North Carolina study looking specifically at switching from one grading scale to another. Like many school employees, I'm looking at ways to address chronic absenteeism in my district. Changing the grading scale seems like a straightforward and simple measure that could potentially have huge benefits, so I'm wondering if it has been studied further; however, I haven't managed to find any research about it on my own.
Practical solutions, hmm. Here's one. For any family that wants an Honest Accounting, can we make widely available, convenient, cheap, accurate, easy-to-digest assessment? If there's no non-profit model that wants to step up, a for-profit model might be akin to Mark Cuban Pharmacy.
I would love for assessment results to be easier to digest. But would those override report card grades that families consistently rate as the most credible sources of information?
